Are You Experiencing These Hard Water Problems?
Hard Water & Hair Loss, Dry & Brittle Hair
Hard water can directly effect the condition of your hair, causing it to become dry, brittle and damaged. Not only that, but colour loss & brassy tones are common side effects of showering with hard water.
Hard Water & Blocked Shower heads & White Scale
Hard water blocks shower heads and taps, reducing water pressure in your bathroom. Not to mention, the white scale that coats your shower screen, fixtures & fittings.
Hard Water Skin - Eczema, Dry Skin & Dandruff
Hard water is notoriously harsh on your skin. For those with sensitive skin, hard minerals can cause skin conditions such as eczema. Limescale in your water can also cause dandruff and flakey skin.
Limescale, Hard Water and Broken, Inefficient Appliances
Hard water causes scale build up inside your appliances. This can cause permanent damage to your kettle, washing machine, dishwasher, hot tub etc - meaning they break down & need replacing long before they should.
How hard is London Water?
London has some of the hardest water in the UK, the severity of hardness can vary across the city but generally it ranges from 290–300 ppm.
Water hardness is typically classified in the UK as:
- - Soft: up to ~100 ppm
- - Moderately hard: ~150–200 ppm
- - Hard: ~200–300 ppm
- - Very hard: over ~300 ppm
Why is the water so hard?
London’s mains supply can come from different water boards, depending on your location, but generally is drawn largely from underground chalk aquifers. This water is naturally high in calcium and magnesium ions, which are picked up as the water moves through layers of limestone and chalk, giving London its hard water.
Is softened water safe to drink?
Soft water is safe to drink for the majority of people. There is a small amount of sodium in the water (around the same as a slice of bread). Soft water is not recommended for those on a low sodium diet, pets and babies.
Is this you? You can still install a water softener - the only difference is during the installation you can ask the plumber to bypass the tap in the kitchen. Alternatively you can install a drinking water filter or separate drinking water tap.
What are Saltless Water Softeners?
Saltless water softeners do not remove hard water minerals from your water. They add more components to the water instead and cannot remove hard water and limescale. A salt water softener is the only real way to remove hard water minerals. It does so using sodium and a internal resin. The internal resin uses reverse osmosis to extract and hold onto the hard minerals - displacing them with sodium.
How Long Will a Harvey Water Softener Last?
With the Harvey TwinTec, you’ll receieve a 10 year warranty - Harvey systems are bult to last 10 - 20 years.
What are the Running Costs & Is A Water Softener Worth It?
All you need to pay for is the block salt to maintain the softener. On average we see a salt consumption of 1 block per person per month. A softener not only leaves your hair and skin soft and home super clean, but it can also save money on bills, appliances, skin care, washing powder, shower gel and cleaning products.
